Speech is a course designed primarily to familiarize the student with the importance of effective communication at school, at home, in the community…..and, in a very competitive marketplace.  Academic success is very important, yes, but without effective communications skills and knowledge of sound social dynamics, the student might not get the opportunity to showcase that success.  Great communicators can make their own way in this world.  They can stand and speak to a group of their peers…..they can ace a job interview……they can influence and make the world around them better.  And the good news is:  we all have that ability inside of us.  We just have to turn it loose.  Hopefully, this course will help unlock and develop those skills. Towards that end, each student will be expected to make four formal speeches (two per nine-week grading periods) between now and the end of the semester.  I can think of no better way to clear a pathway to success than to develop and enrich personal communication skills…..especially those that require the speaker to use a prepared speech to bring an organized, informative topic to a classroom audience.
